Heartland Frontier Content Update - v0.1.2
Heartland Frontier is a challenging tile-based 4x strategy game where you fight feudal lords and tribal chieftains in the hope of unifying your homeland and resisting foreign invasion. The heartland is the last true untamed frontier on the continent, a sparse realm trapped between 4 great powers.
I try to do content updates every Friday, I do not include balance / bug fixes in these devlogs.
You can check the game manual here for more detail. The main content added to the game over the past week is the following:
- Tile graphics updated to be a bit more bright and colourful.
- Settlement graphics updated to be a bit less sharp.
- Cavalry have a chance to shatter enemy cohorts when the enemy is in open terrain. Cavalry training time increased to 90 days and requires the horses trade good to train.
- Colonies can be founded in tiles that are more than 2 distance from the nearest settlement. Colonies cost 10 influence and 30 days to construct, then will slowly grow over time. Once a colony reaches 100% growth it will become a settlement.
- Settlement Captured Event: Allows you to choose between occupying the settlement, looting it for gold or exterminating the population. Sacking the settlement has a chance to exterminate the population as well.
- Fur trade good added - increases colony growth rate by 50%.
- Cotton trade good added - increases manpower replenishment by 50%.
- Wine trade good added - increase morale replenishment by 50%.
- Character AI has been overhauled and simplified to reflect current game mechanics:
- Army strength and the defence of their settlements based on garrison size.
- Hunt neutral or hostile character that have relatively low manpower.
- Found new settlements by building colonies.
- Assault neutral or hostile settlements if they have a weak garrison.
- Capture and Plunder neutral or hostile holdings.
- Build Farmsteads and Workshops.
- Improved resource management: Manpower, Morale, Food, Gold, Influence.
Looking forward to next week and 0.1.3 I will be spending my time working on Factions. To date the game is basically a free-for-all between characters, once factions have been implemented various Lords will combine their resources and objectives to fight as one. This should hopefully add a layer of depth that is still missing from the game.
