Heartland Frontier Content Update - v0.1.1



Heartland Frontier is a tile-based 4x strategy game based in a randomly generated world. Updates every Friday, I do not include balance / bug fixes in these dev logs.


Early days yet in terms of graphics and interface, I write code. 

Character Customisation Screen Added

Here you can see the first iteration of the character customisation screen, choose your class, faith and starting position.


I have started work on the character customisation screen, which allows you to better define your play-style at the start of the game. The main options you can choose from are:

  • New Faith: Polytheism - Killing other Polytheist characters will yield their holdings and settlements if you defeat them in battle.

  • New Faith: Monotheism - Killing non-Monotheist characters will yield a large amount of influence that can be spent on constructing holdings.

  • New Background: Tribal Chief - Starting as a Tribal Chief will grant a large army but no settlements or holdings. Tribal Chiefs gain passive manpower regeneration over time and can get additional bonus manpower from plundering holdings.

  • New Background: Feudal Lord - Starting as a Feudal Lord will grant ownership of a settlement. Settlements allow you to train the local population into cohorts and these can be used in the garrison for defence or your character's army. 


Some of the minor changes added to the game over the past week:

  • Manpower Regeneration - settlement garrison will regenerate 20% manpower at the start of every month. To regenerate manpower in your army cohorts, have your character positioned in a friendly settlement at the end of the month.
  • Morale Regeneration - army morale regenerates based on the morale stat for cohort, represented by a horn.


Looking forward to 0.1.2 I will be spending my time working on the more 'strategic' elements of the game after focusing a lot on character customisation and development this week. I have an action list for next week but I doubt I will be able to add all content but some features I will be looking at are:

  • Colonies - spend your influence on founding new colonies on the Heartland Frontier, these can grow over time into full settlements. 
  • Mercenary Camp - spend your gold to recruit foreign cohorts into your army. The travelling camp will periodically migrate around the Heartland Frontier.
