Battle for Europe 1900 v0.7 - North Africa

North Africa is the focus of this week's build. The nation's that see changes include Britain, France, Morocco and the Ottomans. The Atlantic, Central Med and Eastern Med sea nodes have been updated to include new ports.

• Fes has been divided into Fes and Casablanca territories.

Developer Comments: Morocco goes from 1 to 2 territories. Both have access to the Atlantic sea node. They start in a tough position, being blocked at sea by Portugal and France by land.

At this stage in development Morocco is not intended to be playable. They exist to be partitioned by larger powers such as France, Spain and Portugal.

• Algiers has been divided into Algiers and Tunis territories.

Developer Comments: This gives France an additional territory in North Africa. Algiers retains access to the Western Med, while Tunis has access to the Central Med sea node. This gives France access to 4 out of 8 sea nodes in the game. This is balanced by the fact that France directly controls only 1 out of the 4 with their navy.

• Tripoli has been divided into Tripoli and Benghazi territories.

Developer Comments: This gives the Ottomans an additional territory in North Africa. Both have access to the Central Med. When the Ottomans were declared on by Britain, France or Italy they tended to lose the African front quickly. This change improves the chances of the Ottomans to fight back.

• Cairo has been divided into Cairo and Suez territories.

Developer Comments: This gives Britain an additional territory in North Africa. Both have access to the Eastern Med. The core theme of Britain will be balancing the homefront in the North Sea, with their overseas commitments in Egypt.

In future updates the strategic importance of the Suez territory will be expressed through the Suez Canal. But that is for another time!
